About us
Word Worker is a PR and copywriting agency founded by journalist Jo Smyth
She moved from reporting to news editing and then sub-editing for regional newspapers, before swapping life as an employee to become a freelance, writing features for national women’s and parenting magazines. She covered topics ranging far and wide, from how to treat nappy rash, to sex education lessons for couples!
Jo dipped her toe into PR to help an ex-colleague who was running the comms team at Great Western Trains and has never looked back.
As owner of Word Worker, founded in 2009, Jo uses her innate understanding of how the media works to get her clients coverage online, in print and on air, putting them in front of the people that matter – their customers – and enhancing their brands’ reputation.
Jo uses her copywriting skills to position her clients as experts in their field, drafting tightly written text for websites, blogs, social media posts, award entries or marketing content – perfectly pitched at the audience, giving clarity and consistency to clients’ messages.
And when Jo is snowed under – as happens from time-to-time – she has carefully-selected, former journalism colleagues she can call on to help out, who have the same high standards and are also working in PR.
